Water Conservation Campaign using Plastic Waste Materials

On the occasion of World Water Day, the Berhampur Sabuj Bahini organized a water conservation campaign using plastic waste materials.

World Water Day has been observed every year on March 22 since 1993. This year, Berhampur Sabuj Bahini celebrated the day near Sukunda village. Previously, more than 400 valuable and medicinal trees had been planted in this area by the organization, but they were facing a shortage of water. To address this issue, the organization took an innovative step by reusing discarded single-use plastic containers, bottles, and used medical saline IV sets to conserve water. Earlier, each tree required about 15 liters of water at a time, but now, using a 5-liter discarded plastic container, water can be supplied continuously to a tree for up to 48 hours, said the organization’s president, Shibaram Panigrahi. The organization has also been spreading awareness about this method among various educational institutions.

The program was presided over by President Shibaram Panigrahi and conducted by Secretary A. Prakash. Other members, including Co-Secretary P. Binod, Treasurer Ganesh Panigrahi, Sujit Gouda, Banamali Pradhan, Akash Rout, Prasanna Swain, Surya Narayan Patra, and Ramahari Sethi, actively supported the awareness campaign.
