A remarkable example of environmental dedication was recently demonstrated by Berhampur Sabuja Bahini through the successful relocation of a 50-year-old, 50-foot-tall Ashoka tree. The massive tree was carefully uprooted and safely transported using a crane from the premises of Maa Mahuri Kalua Temple to a new location approximately 200 meters away.
This complex operation required precision, planning, and teamwork to ensure the tree’s survival and continued growth. The initiative highlights the organization’s commitment not just to planting trees, but also to protecting and preserving mature trees that hold ecological and cultural value.
The relocation event was carried out in the presence of Temple President Mr. Promoda Jena, Berhampur Sabuja Bahini President Mr. Sibaram Panigrahi, along with temple staff members, staffs of Sabuja Bahini, and several local residents. Such efforts send a powerful message that development and nature conservation can go hand in hand when approached responsibly. The successful transplantation of the Ashoka tree has been widely appreciated by the local community and environmental enthusiasts. Experts believe that relocating mature trees is a challenging task that requires scientific methods and continuous post-relocation care. Members of Berhampur Sabuja Bahini ensured proper root protection, soil management, and watering arrangements to help the tree adapt to its new environment. The initiative also created awareness among residents about the importance of conserving old trees instead of cutting them down during construction or development activities.
