Tampara Buzzed with Vibrant Celebration on World Wetlands Day

World Wetlands Day, 2024 was celebrated at Tampara Lake, located in Chatrapur, through the joint efforts of the voluntary organizations Anchalika Bikash Parishad and Berhampur Sabuja Bahini. On this occasion, all the volunteers actively participated in a cleanliness drive and collected plastic waste from both sides of the Tampara area. Approximately 200 kilograms of polythene and plastic waste were collected.

World Wetlands Day is observed every year on February 2nd across the globe. The main objective of celebrating this day is to raise public awareness about wetlands and their importance. Wetlands are areas of shallow water where plant life thrives beneath the surface, playing a vital role in maintaining ecological balance.

Across India, 75 wetland sites have been recognized, out of which six are located in Odisha, and Tampara Lake is one of them. These wetlands are essential for biodiversity conservation, water purification, and climate regulation.

The program witnessed the participation of several members, including Sivarama Panigrahi, President of Sabuja Bahini; Sagar Kumar Patra, President of Anchalika Bikash Parishad; along with Bijendra Majhi, A. Prakash, Sagar Prasad Patra, Dharmaraj Patra, P. Binod, Praveen Nayak, M. Dillip Kumar, Muna Satapathy, Sunil Majhi, K. Vivek, and others.
