On the auspicious occasion of Dola Purnima and Holi, Sabuj Bahini celebrated the festival in a unique way by playing Holi with trees. Holi is known as a festival of brotherhood, strengthening love and harmony among people through the application of colors. However, Sabuj Bahini extended this spirit to trees, emphasizing that trees are living beings and deserve care and affection. The initiative aimed to spread awareness among people about the importance of protecting trees.
Since humans and trees coexist in nature, efforts were made to strengthen this relationship. A natural mixture prepared from neem leaves, turmeric, cow dung, and lime powder was used as eco-friendly Holi color and applied to trees. This was done because termites and other insects often infest the roots, causing trees to weaken, break, and die prematurely. The application of this natural mixture helps protect trees and ensures their long-term survival.
This initiative has been part of continuous efforts by Sabuj Bahini in recent times to conserve and strengthen trees. The natural preparation was made based on the advice of a botany professor from Berhampur University and was applied to trees on the day of Holi.
Sabuj Bahini has been organizing such programs during various festivals to connect people with the environment. Activities include worshipping trees as mothers on Mother’s Day, tying rakhi to trees on Raksha Bandhan, celebrating friendship with trees on Friendship Day, and planting trees on Environment Day to maintain ecological balance. Through these efforts, the organization continues to build a strong bond between humans and trees while spreading awareness.
The event was attended by Sabuj Bahini President Shibaram Panigrahi, Secretary A. Prakash, and other members including M. Dillip Kumar, P. Binod, Ganesh Panigrahi, P. Kiran Kumar, Akash Rout, Sushil Kumar, and Prasanna Swain.
